Two days ago Matt Mullenweg notified about the availability of RC2 of WordPress 2.5, this time elaborating some new features, and the soft look of the administration panel. WordPress growth is moving up pretty fast but the final version is still to be expected within an unset date. The closest potential deadline of the final release is “Due in 22 years (04/01/30).”
There is more than 75% finished work, with 730 closed tickets, and the remaining active tickets amount is 240 which makes only 1/3 of the closed ones, however they concluded it’ll take up to 22 years to close those.
Below is a screencast made by Matt, navigating through the admin panel, posting a new topic, uploading pictures, and claiming 2.5 new comfortability. It gives a closer view of what major changes has WordPress overlived since the 2.3 release.
Although I don’t see no Changes Log of what happened from RC1 to RC2, yet if you want to keep track of RC’s, the last release is available for download here.
I was planning to upgrade soon, however, think it’s better to be awaiting RC feedback though, for new unexpected vulnerabilities may arise at anytime. What could come to our interest is a published list of compatible plug-ins with 2.5, so if you’re planning to upgrade even in RC2 be sure to check that list before continuing.
