This last month, meaning during the March I’ve been using a WordPress plug-in called StatPress which collects date about users visiting my blog like type of browser used, operating system, referral links etc., whereby I was able to get a clue of what really is going on, at some point solving dilemmas and doubts regarding the real stats about the usage of Windows Vista and Internet Explorer 7. This two products have raised much attention lately, as in media also in the customers’ side. Although almost two months have passed since I started blogging and yet I don’t have much of daily visits nor traffic, nevertheless, seems to be more than enough to realize what is really used and what ‘abandoned‘. A series of screenshots will display all the necessary information to show you some prove, and reinforce my opinion upon getting rid of maybe Vista but especially IE7, although I already did get off the last one. Before all, I never liked IE, I don’t now and obviously never will. When it comes to Vista I do have it currently installed on my laptop, what’s important is without SP1 yet, but haven’t totally despaired me yet even though I’m impatiently waiting for the Service Pack 3 of XP so the chances I’ll downgrade back to XP are more than possible. Again, against all the Microsoft temptations to save Vista no trust could have been implemented to the Windows users, I don’t support Vista banishment but neither am I on Microsoft’s side to XP assimilation, of course I could mention millions of reasons for that but that’s not my point in this post. See images below for a stronger convincement meantime note that the stats were captured on 1st of April.

Most read topic:

This pictures shows that “WordPress 2.5 final is here, 22 years ended up so fast” has been the most read topic of all, it’s not impressive though because the link was listed as a pingback in WordPress official release announcement. However, this stats also helped me realize what are readers more up to so I can take that as an advantage for future writings, although I’m doing it very rarely.

Most browsers used:
top_browser The picture speaks by itself, basically it wouldn’t be necessary to say anything in addition here but I simply can’t leave just like that without saying at least something. As we can see on top of the list stays Firefox, the browser that doesn’t promise anything but gives everything. This is the actual Browser War II which is currently happening. The second most used doubtlessly is Internet Explorer 6, the all-time browser, the one which took Netscape down and is staying right behind Firefox back, so that in the worst case scenarios to step-over and take its first lost place back again (God forbid). Now after that lies the main critical part of which I was talking about in the beginning of this post. You can pretty much notice yourself for it’s pretty much obvious though, the abandonment of IE7 as stated above. Honestly it’s strange but it is true, as a matter of fact is the reality of what’s really happening. Initially, when IE7 arrived it was expected to bring us amusement, reliability and safety, for me none of those came, ever. But surprisingly I’m not the only one thinking that way I can tell, for as referring to the stats seems like IE5 is yet being more used than IE7, a fact that I undeniably love to see. Therefore, I can conclude that IE7 is not being favored by Windows users, and pretty much is a hopeless and failed product of Microsoft. Whereas following on the list are all other browsers like Safari, Opera, Camino, Firefox 3 and more but with a fewer usage, again if we would sum the numbers of these yet it will be bigger than IE7′s itself.

Most Operating Systems used:

Now, another worth discussing part is the Operating Systems usage. Despite all Microsoft bad-tempered temptations to contempt it’s very own but users much loved product Windows XP, it still is the most actual used OS. XP usage is far much used than Vista is, which makes Vista negligible and abandoned. Vista has a lot of cool new features I must admit, for some of which I really acknowledge Microsoft’s work, however, majority of the audience has been familiarized with XP the last 5 years and therefore jumping from XP to Vista is being considered a waste for there are things to get used to and that is not welcomed because is time consuming and people must work to ensure a life for themselves. Even delaying the release of SP3 is not helping discourage customers from XP, the favor and reputation XP has makes everyone feel infinitely comfortable and confident, SP2 is more than enough. But the real disappointment had happened with the postponement of Vista SP1, that actually is what pissed everyone off. Yeah I can hear you say but it’s available now, of course it is, after what 1 year and 4 months after Vista’s release, what about all the issues within that interval ?! Anyways, following on the list is another Microsoft OS but a discontinued one and that is Windows 2000, my first NT OS I ever installed.

Eventually, the wise guys at Microsoft are playing strategically to deflect this two very own products and especially XP, however their plan seems to not be prosperous, disregard of that I can conclude that Windows XP and Internet Explorer 6 are the two everlasting products Microsoft has developed, hence it’s hardly possible they could come near to that success ever again. Nowadays claiming that XP is a users/customers product and not Microsoft anymore for my opinion would be more than justified. In the other hand, IE6 is the most buggiest browser ever seen, yet is the most used browser of all times. Honestly, looking forward that Firefox will bang it and believe me it will. Oops!! I has actually.
